RIDE FAQ

Everything you need to know about our bikes, shoes & cleats for your first RIDE class!

Written by Lauren

Do your bikes accommodate my height/weight?

The following measurements are the guidelines provided by the bike manufacturer:

User Height & Weight Accommodations

Max Weight: 158kg

Min Height: 147cm

Max Height: 208cm

Do I need to bring my own shoes?

We provide shoes free of charge, but you are very welcome to bring your own shoes!

The shoes must have cleats installed, to allow you to clip into our pedals. We use 2 different cleat systems:

Shimano SPD Cleats

Look Delta Cleats

Shimano SPD cleats can be used at all of our studios. Look Delta cleats can be used at our newer studios, if you would like to know if your local studio supports Look Delta cleats: please contact us!

Which shoe sizes do you have in stock?

We typically stock sizes 35-51. If you have questions about size availability at a specific studio, please contact us and we will be happy to assist!

Do I need to bring a towel?

No, we provide fresh towels free of charge.

How early should I arrive at my first RIDE class?

We recommend arriving at least 15 minutes early. Our team will give you a tour of the studio, help set up your bike, and ensure you're comfortable with the equipment. We want your first RIDE to be safe, relaxed, and a lot of fun!

🚨Important: The ride room door closes 5 minutes before the class starts, to ensure that we can start the class safely and on time. There are no exceptions - so please be on time!

How to use the shifter and dial?

Our team on site will talk you through how to use the sprint shifter and resistance dial, but here is a run down in case you like to be prepared:

Your bike works with resistance to simulate riding a bike on a flat road, uphill or downhill.

The knob (or dial) in the center can be turned to the right to increase resistance or to the left to decrease resistance. Turn it halfway to feel a difference. You can also always press the knob down to stop your bike completely.

When you get on your bike the resistance is set to 0 (or “downhill”) - which we will never use at a BEAT81 workout. Therefore always turn the knob to the right until you feel some resistance. You are now on the flat road.

Now it gets interesting: above the knob there is a lever (or SprintShifter), which allows you to significantly increase resistance to simulate hills (or a mountain). The default setting is on the left (or “1”). By moving the lever to the middle (or “2”) you increase the resistance by 70%. Moving the lever to the right (or “3”) increases resistance by 100%.

During a workout, your coach will indicate when to increase or decrease resistance using the “dial” or the “shifter”.
