Maximum Heart Rate Calculation

How is my maximum heart rate calculated?

Your heart rate is unique to you — that’s why we personalize your training zones instead of using fixed numbers.

For your first workout, we estimate your maximum heart rate using a standard age-based formula (220 minus your age). This gives us a starting point, but it’s only an estimate. As you train with us, we learn how your body actually responds and your zones become more accurate over time.

Because everyone’s heart rate behaves differently, raw numbers aren’t meaningful on their own — 150 bpm can feel easy for one person and intense for another. That’s why we show your effort as a percentage of your personal maximum heart rate, so you can understand how hard you’re working relative to your own capacity.

My heart rate zone feels off. What should I do?

If the zones don't feel right in your first sessions, that's completely normal. Some people find they're in the red zone while feeling only moderately challenged; others struggle to reach it despite pushing hard. Both are common and don't mean anything is wrong with you or your fitness.

Over the following workouts, your max heart rate will adjust based on your actual performance, whenever you reach a new maximum – so your zones become more accurate over time. If you'd like to speed this up or something feels off, just ask a coach. We can review and adjust your settings on the spot.

The most important rule: trust how you feel first. Heart rate zones are a guide, not a test — and they’re designed to support your progress, not control it.

Can I request to adjust my maximum heart rate?

Yes — you can request an adjustment to your maximum heart rate. If your zones don’t feel accurate, speak to a coach, who can help review and update it so your tracking better reflects your effort.
